New PC's - Easy target for attacks!

New PC's and Internet Security
Most people purchase a new PC - have it set up, get online with broadband then tend to forget about Internet Security.

Many people will turn on their new PC and be gutted to find it is infected with a virus, trojan or even spyware within minutes. This is nothing new, and even people like us here at Internet Security have been a victim at some time or another, whether you are a novice or professional.

People still don't appreciate the seriousness of ensuring their internet security software is up to date. Surveys show that well over half those surveyed were confident that the new PC they were using is protected before it is even setup. This is true to an extent, most PC's come with some form of internet security software pre-installed but this is only half of the story.

With the speed of attacks increasing, new PC's are very vulnerable, this is because patches for the Operating System (OS) haven't been updated, and internet security software updates will not have been updated and installed.

It is also estimated that an unprotected PC can now be hijacked or infected with malware within minutes of logging onto the internet. With new PC's the first thing you should do is update and install your internet security software, and then run Windows Update.

Remember to check the length of your internet security software
You should always remember to make sure your internet security software is working fully, and within it's subscription periods. Most internet security products run for 12 months, a few for 18 months and 24. If these are allowed to lapse then you will not be protected against the latest threats to your PC.
