Do i need antivirus with Windows Vista?

One of the questions asked by many people is "Do i need a seperate antivirus program with Windows Vista?" or "Do i need any internet security software with Windows Vista?". Just so it is plain from the start we think that the answer is Yes, you do. This is because Microsoft products are at the top of the charts for hackers and anyone else that wants to try and "crack" the software that Microsoft produces.

With an ever increasing threat of viruses, trojans, phishing attacks, worms, key loggers etc it is always better to have extra security than to rely on one product, or piece of security software. As most of us know, Windows XP was hailed as the tightest software around when it was launched and has had security updates all it's life. Taking the chance to just rely on Microsoft to protect us all from security threats is just waiting for trouble.

You also have to remember that there are hundreds of people dying to crack open Windows Vista, find it's vulnerabilities and to show the world what they can do.

Vista includes Windows Defender, which “protects your computers against spyware and other potentially unwanted software”. Many people take this to mean that Windows Defender will ensure protection from malware. This is simply untrue. Windows Defender is not a fully functional antivirus product – it only protects against spyware, just one subset of contemporary malware. Windows Defender does not protect against viruses, Trojans, worms etc.
